Small Business Information

‘Whether you're dealing with the everyday pressures of running a business, or looking to start up, you want information that is accessible, practical and easy to understand.’  This is what the ASIC said when announcing a new online service on 5/11/2013.  To go to this informative site, CLICK HERE.

Business names

Generally, you will need to register a business name if you carry on a business or trade within Australia and you are not trading under your own entity name.  In 2012 the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) became the body responsible for registering, renewing and administering business names.  ASIC has also issued a Regulatory Guide to registering your business name.

Trade Marks

Before registering a business name do a Trade Mark search to ensure that the name you choose will not infringe a trade mark.  Go to the Government TM Check website.

The Australian Government Department of Human Services offers employers with 19 or less employees a service which enables the employer to pay all contributions to one Clearing House from which the payment will be distributed to the employee's fund.  For details CLICK HERE to visit the website, or CLICK HERE tosee the brochure.
